The United Council on Welfare Fraud or UCOWF is an association of investigators, prosecutors, administrators, and claims writers from local, federal, and state agencies from the US and Canada who work hand in hand in order to effectively combat fraud, abuse, and waste that take place in various
social service programs. The organization's operations are supported by a set of laws, which were created during its establishment. Founded more than thirty years ago, the UCOWF has devoted its time in actively detecting, stopping, and eliminating
welfare fraud in its various forms. The organization has also been contributory to the recovery of taxpayer monies that were lost through fraud, abuse, and waste in social service programs.
Currently, the UCOWF comprises the District of Columbia, some investigators, recovery specialists, prosecutors from 47 states, and seven provinces in Canada. All these members have successfully established a network from Hawaii to Newfoundland. The primary objective of the UCOWF has always been the protection of
public welfare especially the people covered by the social services program. The organization continues to grow and expand in order to efficiently serve the needs of the people.
