A huge factor contributing to poverty is unemployment. The most obvious solution to that would be providing more jobs. This holds true all country around the globe. But the bigger problem is when jobs are made available, those jobless are in no hurry to get one. Why bother, Uncle Sam's got them covered, right? Last year, it was said that there were almost 14 million people unemployed in America. One would wonder how many of those were just too damn lazy to get off their cans. It's a travesty, really. Forget those who are in it for outright injustice: sexual and racial prejudices, corporate greed, and legit
incapacity to work. They are off the hook. We're talking about flat out laziness here. What has America been eating?!
An ex-girlfriend of mine (who shall forever remain anonymous), a recently self-proclaimed
couch potato, was on welfare for a while. Let's just say she had a very sad history. However, she was eligible to receive benefits from the government for a time. Until she didn't show up at one of her interviews. So eventually, she got the boot. Of course she did! Why? She was too busy hovering on stealth mode. She had a full-functional brain (although seriously disturbed at times), complete fingers and toes, and a freakin' diploma for Pete's sake. I even thought to myself, "was I so uninspiring?"
Welfare is taking on a whole new vibe. It might as well be one of the most sought after gigs by the imperceptible sack artist. I should know because I dated one. It is just unacceptable when reliance (better yet, over-dependence) has just moved up to become "the final answer" for some. Services responsible for welfare must continue to be vigilant. They must remain stern to the undeserving and compassionate to those who need help the most. As for us common folk, we have to stand in front of the line, get our girlfriends out the door, and drive them to work everyday if we have to.
